Introduction to results

The results are shown in a standard format, which is illustrated below. Three columns are headed ‘general issue’, ‘results’ and ‘question reference’.

General issue
This column states the central issue asked in the questions on the right hand side – where there may be separate questions for the UK and EU respondents. Where the question to the UK and EU group was the same the actual question used is shown in the ‘general issue’ column, and only the question number is shown in the ‘question reference’ column.

Results
Pie charts showing the results of the questions feature in this column. The figures shown are percentages, and are rounded to the nearest 1% – this may result in rounding errors where the percentages in sum may not equal 100. A pie chart that is generally red in colour is a result from the UK survey, one that is generally blue and yellow is from the EU survey.

Question reference
Where separate, linked questions are asked of the respondents these are shown in full in this column. Where the questions asked of both sets of respondents is identical the question is shown in the ‘general issue’ column and only the question number is shown in this column.
